ArseNal Player Reviews:
Fabianski – 7
Very safe hands tonight as he was kept busy by Liverpool’s 8 shots on target. Did his claim for a first team place no harm at all. Looked more assured than usual and his distribution is hands down the best of all our goalkeepers.

Gilbert – 7
Much improved from the West Brom game. More focussed on defensive duties tonight given the strength of the opposition, Gilbert was quick, strong and solid.

Senderos – 6
The better of our two centre halves tonight. Big Phil did OK, but as much as I want to like him, I just can’t help feeling that he’s an accident waiting to happen. Commanding in the air and kept the nervy moments to a minimum at least.

Looked shaky for most of the night although put in a few last ditch tackles. Was reluctant to come out and close players down, probably due to his lack of recovery pace.

Gibbs – 7.5
Solid in defence, superb distribution and excellent going forward, Gibbs caused Liverpool problems on the overlap all night. He is superior to Clichy in the attacking third in my opinion and if he maintains this level of progress, he will be pushing the first choice French left back hard by the end of the season.

Eastmond – 7.5
Excellent in the holding midfield role. Eastmond was strong, read the game superbly and passed cleverly. Most impressively, he wanted the ball all night long and worked himself into the ground. Tired somewhat after the 60 minute mark. Looks to have a big future.

Nasri – 8
Excellent to see the crafty little Frenchman back in the midfield – Nasri got a great reception from the fans. Understandably lacked a little match fitness but passed well all night and displayed his excellent dribbling several times. His versatility will be key to the first team as the games and injuries mount up.

Ramsey – 6
Kept things ticking over in the midfield for most of the night and showed glimpse of his talent, although I expected a more complete performance given how much Wenger talks him up. Has a nasty habit of giving the ball away at inopportune moments which he needs to kick – sometimes it’s easy to forget how young he is. He also has a tendency of dribbling back towards his own goal too often instead of looking for the quick person when under trouble.

Merida – 7
Wenger has a great knack for speaking about players at the right time to inject a little confidence – Merida didn’t disappoint tonight. Superb strike to give us the lead and played some delightful passes. As with many young players, needs to try and stay involved for more of the game, rather than just having good spells. Has a bright future at Arsenal although this season has to see some sort of a break through.

Eduardo – 6
Looked a yard off the pace tonight although his class and movement in the final third still proved a handful for the Liverpool defence. Seemed to be carrying a niggle at the end which is hopefully nothing serious.

Bendtner – 7
Much improved attitude and work rate tonight from Bendtner, especially when I think back to his lacklustre performances in last year’s Carling Cup. He was strong on the ball all night and scored an excellent goal at a crucial time. He gave the ball away a few times and needs to work on decision making in the final third to take the next step.

Randall – 6
Introduced for the tiring Eastmond. Could perhaps have kept the ball a little better in the closing stages.

Busy when he came on and can count himself unfortunate not to start after his performance against West Brom.

Coquelin – n/a
No time to show what he can do. Slightly surprised to see Eastmond get the nod ahead of Coquelin tonight – after his performance I now know why.
